The Southern Grind Bad Monkey in a folding, modified-tanto blade coated in Cerakote Armor Black is an entire bushcraft and survival knife package.

It opens via an Emerson Wave feature, which is a wave-looking extension over the top of the blade spine nearest the handle that can be used to catch onto a pants pocket so the blade opens while the folder is pulled from the pocket. It also includes a short pocket clip, and comes with a leather Koozie, keychain, and a black Paracord bracelet.

The blade is Sandvik 14C-28N stainless steel in a conventional tanto style reminiscent of Japanese swords, but Americanized, and the handle is twill-weave carbon fiber in a textured, matte finish.

The Best Survival Knives of 2013 – So Far

I recently took on a special assignment from Living Ready to find the best survival knives of 2013 so far. I dug through fixed blade survival knives, cheap survival knives, so-called Rambo survival knives and more at the 2013 Blade Show to bring you a few models running for the title of the ultimate survival knife of 2013.

The above represents my nine survival knife choices, as seen in the Fall 2013 issue of Living Ready (on print and digital stands around Aug 10). This issue also features survival razors, something readers may not have heard of before.

SOG Field Pup II Best Survival Knife for the MoneyOne more survival knife worth mentioning is the SOG Field Pup II. It’s not new for 2013, but it is an excellent knife for a variety of survival tasks.

Living Ready Store has it for 53% off (just $34.99!), making it the ultimate survival knife for the money.

Any “review” should at least include information that states the “country of origin” for a product.
More and more companies are deliberately leaving out the fact that they are, in fact, made in China.
